Purpose & objective
The purpose of this session is to share how teachers of diverse disciplines can collaborate to implement coding with young students. We will share details about how we used the free K-5 code.org curriculum and our implementation with 100+ first and second graders. We will share the students’, parents’, and administrators’ responses to the program and insights gained from the implementation. Two of three code.org K-5 courses were used. Course 1 for early-readers was used with our first grade students. Course 2 for beginning-readers was used with our second grade students. It is hoped that by sharing our story, other teachers will feel motivated and capable to implement a coding curriculum with their elementary students.
