At a Glance For Newcomers

Welcome, conference newcomers! Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your conference experience.

Expand your horizons on Sunday!
ISTE's favorite host, Mario Armstrong, leads our high-energy Conference Kickoff Sunday at 1 pm, followed by an afternoon of networking and hands-on activities. Finish the day with the opening keynote and reception.

Make virtual connections
The ISTE 2012 Ning has information about sessions, conference updates, social events, and group activities. The Newcomers group has tips and advice for first-time attendees. Search for #iste12 on Twitter and keep track of all the latest buzz before the conference and onsite.

Pre-select your sessions
Search the online program ahead of time to maximize your learning experience at the conference. Tip: see which sessions will be recorded, (look for VOD icon) and save those for later!

Make a working plan
Use our conference planner to keep your schedule on track—you can even invite others to events! Note: Adding a session to your planner does not secure you a seat in sessions that require pre-registration, such as BYODs and workshops.

Learn the conference lingo
See an acronym you’re not familiar with? Scroll through our 2012 Glossary to find answers to conference-specific questions.

Visit the Newbie Lounge
At the Newbie Lounge in the Sails Pavilion, you can relax with friendly folks who are eager to share their conference success strategies with you. Visit the Newbie Lounge website now to get started!

Use these handy tools
Use our mobile app on your iPhone or iPad to access the conference planner, schedule, maps, links to ISTE's social media networks, and more. (Mobile interface also available for other smartphone users). And check out our new Digital Final Program; it’s like an iBook, with interactive format and resources!

Arrive early to sessions
Regular conference sessions are first come, first served, so get there early to avoid being shut out. Note: BYOD sessions and workshops require pre-registration (and workshops are an additional fee).

Plan time in the expo
Conference attendees spend an average of six hours in the exhibit halls! Make sure to allow yourself time to see what each vendor has to offer. They give great demonstrations and lots of goodies, too!

Keep up on conference news
ISTE Daily Leader, the official conference publication, has tons of helpful information, conference news and updates, feature stories, and fun articles. Pick up a hard copy at Ask Me stations, ISTE Central, or in the transportation area.

Experience San Diego
Reserve your Padres baseball tickets online or onsite at the Registration area. Visit our About San Diego page for info and links to lots of great things to do in the area.

Need help? We’ve got you covered
For technical difficulties onsite, the Doctor is In! Our wonderful volunteer staff is there to help you with all your digital needs. Feeling lost? Ask Me stations (look for signs) are located throughout the facility to get you back on track.

Learn about your ISTE membership
Nonmembers who register for ISTE 2012 receive a standard, one-year ISTE membership! Stop by ISTE Central and learn how best to use your year-round learning association.

Join your community at ISTE 2012
If you're a member of an ISTE affiliate or special interest group (or want to join), visit the ISTE Member Events page or use the program search to see what's happening with your group throughout the conference. It's fun and informative!

Volunteer for a special experience
Volunteering is a fantastic way to meet new people and get a "behind the scenes" look at the conference. Sign up when you register, or via the Volunteers link on the website.
